Laurett Arenz-Vice President
Dance has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. At just three years old, my mom enrolled me in tap, ballet, and tumbling (what we called gymnastics back then), and I was hooked. I loved moving my body—so much so that I practiced cartwheels in my parents’ office, occasionally splitting my lip in the process. At nine, our family moved, and with eight children, formal lessons weren’t possible. I improvised—taking the bus to the YMCA with friends to practice dance and gymnastics independently. In junior high and high school, I made the dance team, and our High School drill team went on to win a regional championship—despite my dislocating my shoulder during the final performance. The joy outweighed the pain. For the past six years, I’ve been immersed in ballroom dancing with my wonderful husband, Dave. We now know 27 dances—not perfectly, but passionately. I feel most alive when I dance. I’m deeply grateful to USA Dance and to all of our dance coaches, especially John and Penny DeFino. I want to thank Thomas Pound and Jennifer Brandon for their service and leadership, and I am honored to serve as Vice President of the Fort Myers chapter. |
